Stop, shop and socialise at The Yard tea room and gallery in Salisbury
I love to visit The Yard in Salisbury. It’s a fabulous tea room, shop and gallery stocking a gorgeous selection of homewares and gifts ranging from the quirky to the retro to the locally crafted. You really couldn’t ask for more. It’s simply a lovely place to spend time browsing around or catching up with friends.
The tiny entrance opens up into a pretty courtyard and The Yard itself is a surprisingly open, light and airy space. In the summer, the courtyard is a real suntrap and in the winter you can sit comfortably on a sofa by the log burner drinking tea from vintage china and eating the most tasty Welsh rarebit. They also do a great selection of cakes which they bake on the premises in their tiny kitchen. The menu is short and sweet but offers all the fuel you need to decide what special item/s from the shop will be going home with you.
One of the things I love most about The Yard is that they support The Graduate Collection, a company which represents exciting new talents emerging fresh from UK universities. I’m currently a bit taken with the work of Lisa Bliss including the stag head cushion and wallpaper in teal. There’s a brilliant fox head scarf too…decisions, decisions!
TiYK Top Tip! Walk to The Yard via Fisherton Street and pop into the Antiques Arcade and All Sorts bric-a-brac for a root through their treasures. So far my best find is a dressing table. It was a rather shabby pine affair which I have since rubbed down, painted and waxed. It looks amazing for something which was such a steal!
